Very nice of him to link to My Little Word Land!
I should send Memrise an email.

Yes, I noticed this recently, see Β» MemRise App no longer works with Community Courses - My Little Word Land
The most telling para is this: "The vast majority of our users tell us they want to be able to navigate Paris, talk to their partners' families, or understand Bad Bunny when he is signing." (presumably means singing unless Bad Bunny has developed a Reggaeton sign language)
I don't think anyone would argue with this - just that it completely ignores what a SRS system can do, It is one part of the process - and that is what Memrise was good at. Their attempt at becoming a one-stop shop is doomed to failure (like all apps that promise they are the ONE solution). No amount of AI or whizzy new GUIs will change this.
When I saw this announcement, I imagined there would be a flood of complaints.

Damage control. They got avalanche of 1 star rating on google play and their overall score dropped from 4.6 to 4.5. The moment they get the situation under control, they will axe the community courses without a blink of eye.

Ask him about this too
NewLandRise The moment they get the situation under control, they will axe the community courses without a blink of eye.
To be fair, this is what they promised:
"We will preserve your lists while alternatives are explored. We arenβt going to delete your lists any time soon and without lots and lots of notice."
Admittedly, they are not very trustworthy people, so we'll see.
Great advert again:
Second, I wanted to highlight a great initiative that we have been supporting for some time to migrate the community courses to: https://mylittlewordland.com/.

Hi, Ben here, founder of Memrise.
First, I want to apologise for the shock of this transition for many of you. We did try to make sure that everyone knew what to expect well in advance, and have been supporting people to migrate community courses to other places - but we clearly have not done it well enough.
Second, I wanted to highlight a great initiative that we have been supporting for some time to migrate the community courses to: https://mylittlewordland.com/. We are also happy to support anyone else wanting to do something similar. Just because we can no longer justify supporting the community courses doesn't change the fact that we would like to do anything we reasonably can to help everyone who does still want that experience.
Please get in touch at [cs@memrise.com](mailto:cs@memrise.com) if you would like support on moving community courses to another home and we'll do what we can to make that easy for you.
Thanks and again my apologies for the way that we've handled this.
I've been preparing to email them but am still thinking through what I'd like to request
Blog update: https://www.memrise.com/blog/changes-to-the-memrise-app
They want to separate the community courses onto a new URL again.
That will be only on web, not on the app.
One of the Memrise staff just mentioned on Reddit that the timeline for removal of community courses is closer to 6 months than to 1 month.
neoncube Does "the removal" refer to the removal from the current Memrise website and the app? The suggested "new URL" for the community courses seems to be semi-permanent-esque (i.e. "not to be removed in the foreseeable future" as they say)?
johnastsang My reading of this is that Memrise is preparing to remove community courses from the app and is separating the community courses to a dedicated URL on the web but still plans to eventually sunset the community courses. I'm guessing that they're moving the community courses to a dedicated URL so that instead of web users needing to switch between the new and old experiences, they can access both simultaneously (via separate URL's)
New URL for community courses: https://community-courses.memrise.com/signin
elfendertig This link doesn't show the old official ones by memrise. Guessing we'll lose those sooner
schlick Supposedly they now live on the "new experience", in which all the words are there, but presented in a different way ("scenarios" instead of "levels").
