  • Migration of courses for speakers of "English (US)"

Take Hawaiian as an example, I can see that all courses from "English (UK)" to Hawaiian have been migrated (https://app.memrise.com/community/courses/english/hawaiian/ -> https://mylittlewordland.com/courses/69/4), but not those from "English (US)". This course and this course, for instance, are not there.

It seems that in the Memrise "English (US)" list, only the top courses are really categorized as "English (US)" as you'll start to see courses in the "English (UK") category when you scroll down, so only those are missing. You can see a course's true category by entering the course, hovering your cursor over the "Hawaiian" category, and looking at the URL.

I'm not sure if it's a work in progress to migrate the "English (US)" courses or if these courses have been overlooked. I know this has been a lot of work for you @[deleted] . Sorry for being such a fussy guy.

There is also a category separated from the catch-all "other languages" (https://app.memrise.com/community/courses/english/other-language/) for "other Indo-European languages" (https://app.memrise.com/community/courses/english/indo-european-languages/). I'm now learning the Sinhala script for an upcoming trip to Sri Lanka (https://app.memrise.com/community/course/1922687/sinhl-sinhala-alphabet/) so I'd love to see it here 🥳!

Speaking of this, the above-mentioned "others" categories are quite a mess. I'd love to help create separate categories for individual languages (no matter how small) and develop a catalogue better than the current Memrise one, using geographical and genealogical classifications. For example, if I want to find a course for Sinhala, I can go "Asia > South Asia > Sri Lanka > Sinhala", or "Indo-European > Indo-Iranian > Indo-Aryan > Sinhala". These can appear in dedicated pages of maps and tree diagrams, instead of a simple picklist as it appears now on Memrise.

It would also be a great idea to develop a tagging system for courses. Two groups of tag options that I think of now are "script / words / phrases" and "beginner / intermediate / advanced". For instance, this course can be tagged "script, words, phrases, beginner", while this course can be tagged "words, beginner, intermediate".

Also, now that pictures are available here, maybe consider importing courses for sign languages (https://app.memrise.com/community/courses/english/sign-languages/) 😆.

johnastsang Sorry, I got sick for a few days and just recovered XD Thanks for poking me 🙂

I've just finished migrating most of the courses in the "Other Indo-European languages" category! 🙂

The "English (US)" courses should be being migrated alongside the "English (UK)" courses, but there've been a lot of courses that haven't been automatically migrated, due to limitations in the script. I've improved the script quite a bit, recently, though, so I suppose I should rerun it and see if it's now able to upload those courses that you pointed to! 🙂

Bedtime for me XD Will reply to the rest of your post later, God willing 🙂

@johnastsang I've rerun the script, so most of the "English (US)" courses that weren't migrated before have now been migrated 🙂

There are still a few that weren't uploaded, though. I need to further improve the script to handle these more special courses.
