Making MemRise users aware of MLWL

I have now edited all the courses I have created and all those I support on MemRise that have over 1000 historical users (many still active), removing info about making comments to the MemRise Forum (on the course description) and hopefully making them aware of the possible loss of Community Courses .

I've been procrastinating on changing the courses that I'm a contributor on, haha.

@toygungothic I like the idea of changing the course profile image! 🙂

I suppose adding a new multimedia level at the beginning of a course explaining that the Memrise community courses are being sunset might not be a bad idea, too, since then anyone who clicked "Learn" would see the notice 🙂

The big problem we all have, which ever option we go for, is will current users see it.

When do you guys think Memrise will eventually close the platform? Still no announcements from them…

I think they have stated the "sunsetting" of our courses, so now is the time to act.

Hopefully they'll also give at least month's warning.

DW7 But the thing is, roughly 99% of the users of community courses have no idea about the proposed end (some popular courses still have thousands of active users, and the forum only had tens of users in the last two months)…

True - very sad. Not sure what we can do about it. Or how long we've got.

DW7 My (possibly wishful) guess is that they'll give prior warnings, because if not, I could't imagine how their customer service would be bombarded by thousands of enquiries due to the sudden inaccessibility of community courses…

Im a memrise user. I found this website through reddit after google searching about the japanese missing community courses (i depended on these) I was very upset but relieved when I found this

Honestly, most users won't know unless memrise themselves lets people know, which I doubt they will volunteer to potentially direct traffic away from their own site for profits.

The best you can do is find ways to advertise and reach language learners, memrise users or not, to grow the website. reddit memrise/language learning subreddits is one of many ways this can be done

Hi, I've also just found this yesterday on reddit after some re-off-re-soon off-Memrise frustration … I'm so glad this site exists.

I'm happy to spread the word in my language teacher bubble on LinkedIn and among my students.

Will all user-created Memrise courses eventually be transferred? I haven't found the ! 400+ top birdsongs yet. Anyway, I so very much appreciate what you're doing here!!!

Thanks for the offer to spread the word… that'd be really cool ^_^ I've been busier than usual lately but am still working on My Little Word Land.

I've just finished transferring all of the Memrise community courses except for courses for Armenian speakers and courses made within the last ~11 months. Some other courses may be slightly out of date, since my last snapshot is from about a year ago, but generally all courses should be available and in fairly good shape 🙂

BTW, you may have already discovered this, but if you have progress from Memrise, you can import it by clicking the "Courses" link and then the "Import Memrise progress" link 🙂
