"Wrong answer" when courses have alternatives.

I have been trying out some of 'my' Italian courses, and a lot have two answers (separated by a comma or other character).

The item was set up with visible (or invisible alternatives) so each word or phrase was acceptable as a correct answer.

So when I answered a question with one answer on MLWL, I got it "wrong" because I did not reply with both in the right order.

Can you have a think how you or I can get round that, please.

If I am able to access and edit the courses I used to support in MemRise, then this problem may be solved.

Thanks - that has saved me an enormous amount of work.

I assume you are referring to the "alternatives" issue, and not the issue of UK and USA version of the 7 courses - this issue still persists.

Also (not chasing you) but my Dashboard is in a random order (of accessing courses initially) and not alphabetical or latest accessed.

I'll try to check it later.

Thanks, DW7 🙂 I took off most of the day yesterday and today 🙂 On the other hand, I'm currently taking a hiatus from full time employment, so I suppose every day is a bit like a vacation 😃

Anyway, yes, that update just fixed the "alternatives" issue. However, I've also just released an update that should make the courses on the dashboard be alphabetically sorted! 🙂

Renaming the official courses to have UK and USA versions will probably have to wait a bit 🙂

I must admit, I too enjoy sorting things especially the courses I've looked after.

I've just checked my dashboard and initially it was not sorted alphabetically. So I logged out and back in but no change.

Then I pulled down to refresh and hey presto - sorted :-)

I'll try again tomorrow.

Hi @[deleted], if you take a look at the Italian course Geography ~ Geografia https://mylittlewordland.com/course/2208/learn/6994/6995 course, there are "/” seperators and the alternatives don't work.

The same issue will most likely be present in all courses by that creator.

All courses by them now have dual language titles separated by a "~" as above.

It looks like the original course on Memrise uses slashes as separators (https://app.memrise.com/community/course/143496/geography-geografia/2/), so this is probably something that would need to be fixed manually, once your also the author of this course on My Little Word Land. Alternatively, if I'm already adding a function to courses that turns commas into semicolons, perhaps I could make it flexible enough that you could also use it to turn slashes into semicolons 🙂

Looking at that course, I'm also noticing that My Little Word Land is showing alternatives that were hidden on Memrise. For example, for the word "il bacino", Memrise shows "basin" but My Little Word Land shows "basin; pelvis".

I guess I need to implement the concept of hidden alternatives and see if there's any way to modify the already uploaded courses to use them 🙂

Please do change "/" to ";" that would be so helpful. (Or give me a way to do it.)

Don't worry about alternatives and hidden alternatives. I used hidden alternatives as the original way to get both words acceptable on their own - but your semicolon solution will resolve that by making both words (or phrases) acceptable.

All those Italian courses are by "RoyGBiv" and I guess they will all be the same.

I've just added super basic support for hidden alternatives and am rerunning a script to rework all of the synonyms for all of the Memrise courses on My Little Word Land. My guess is that'll take a few days.

I'll probably still need to wait until after images and audio are added before adding you as the author of this course, just FYI 🙂

@[deleted] "the" causing "wrong" answers.

Not sure if that was an alternative.

I could check on MemRise if you like.

I think I'll have to ensure it has "the" if the Italian has "il".

Perhaps this was a matching (NT course) so not a problem.

DW7 Ya, I think this was probably a matching course, since I don't think Memrise treats "/" as a separator 🙂

If this were a typing course on Memrise, I think you'd need to type "border / boundary / frontier / (physical)" exactly.

I treated a lot of the Italian courses as 'learn words' rather than know how to type them.

So I never met the "/" problem.

Occasionally I wanted matching words so alternatives were either individual words or A, B and B, A (so both were accepted).

DW7 I think this should be fixed once I release a feature that allows bulk replacing of one character with another, so we can bulk replace "/" with ";" 🙂

The same issue of "/" giving a "wrong" answer as it expects the full entry, exists in "[Audio] Hacking Italian" = My Little Word Land (which still does not play the Audio).
