Memrise CEO just published blog post about changes to website and app

The small course banners on the website still say the same for me ("We will have a new version soon" in Dutch).

Furthermore I have lost access to the new experience over a week ago. I asked Memrise: they simply removed the button for users to go to the new experience because of problems. They have given no timeline when they expect to solve it. So I can't learn anything new there at the moment.

I too have not been able to access the new experience but that hasn't concerned my as I'm making the most of the official courses while I still can.

Does that mean that no one can access the new experience - ie it's on hold?

Or is it that if you are on the old experience you can't switch, but people on the new experience are stuck there?

I had the same problem (see https://www.reddit.com/r/memrise/comments/1awl78s/comment/krih4l8/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3). The solution I figured out was to use the Memrise app, where the button to migrate to the "new experience" was there when I did it.

I've already finished their official courses for the languages I'm studying (from Dutch). Their new courses (from English) are larger.

This is what they answered me:

We're sorry you've been unable to access the new Memrise content and features. We've had to temporarily stop users moving to the new experience while we iron out some problems faced by users that have already been migrated. As soon as it's available again for old users, we'll be sure to let you know.

I understand that to mean, that many users are on the new format but are having problems so others can't join it until it's sorted.

Interesting because I was hopping between the two a while back.

I wonder how long it would take me to get a mobile app up and running, and if it'd be worth prioritizing that over fixing bugs in the web version and cloning courses.

DW7 because I was hopping between the two a while back.

I was also constantly hopping back and forth. Although the synchronisation was taking really long each time (while there was nothing new to synchronise) after their official launch of the new experience.

I've just found that "Learn with Locals" now also works on the web (I didn't think it did before) IF you go from the MemRise Dashboard (not the course details and levels page).

I just got an email from Memrise saying that the community courses at app.memrise.com will end March 31.

FWIW, I received the same email, albeit in German.

I suppose all mails contain a link to the following page which includes somewhat chaotic (IMHO) information.

The most important piece of information within the blog post:

All community courses will be retired from memrise.com and the Memrise apps on March 31st. 2024

And:

Community courses will live in the new URL at least until the end of 2024

And last but not least:

Q: Will I be able to access Community Courses on mobile apps?

A: Community Courses will only be accessible on community-courses.memrise.com. They won’t be accessible via the Memrise app past March 31st 2024, but you can use the new website in a mobile web browser and create a shortcut for it on your mobile phone or tablet. You can find instructions on how to do this here for Android, and over here for iOS.

I have tried working on my CCs on my Android mobile in the browser a while ago but found it to be unusable.

Maybe it was just a glitch - the posting is looking "normal" again. It might as well be a permission problem - I always wonder as to why I seem to be able to edit other folks' postings (haven't ever tried it). Maybe someone else may also delete postings. 🤷

I recently purchased a lifetime membership of memrise, only to have the community courses pulled out from underneath me… the whole reason I became a lifetime member. Memrise doesn't currently offer any Catalan courses - so I just got screwed… and end of March there won't be an app to use community Catalan course on my phone anyways. I don't see the point of memrise trying to be another "duolingo." I've sent them some complaints but it's all pretty disappointing. I liked memrise and to me it doesn't make any sense what they are doing. It's like they don't know who they are and are trying to be someone else. Very sad.
