Making people contributors of their old courses

Now that courses have images and audio, I think it's time to start adding people as contributors! 😃

Please post a link to your Memrise user profile. I should be able to use that to retrieve a list of the courses that you were teaching on Memrise and automatically add you as a contributor to those courses on My Little Word Land 🙂

Wrong thread, but any news on the Non-Language courses which make up the bulk of my interest? (Although Italian features heavily.)

DW7 I migrated a bunch of geography courses, but at least one of the courses that you were a contributor to didn't migrate, due to a missing image. I need to modify my script to handle missing images and rerun it 🙂

I suppose once I automatically add you as an author to all of the courses that have been migrated to My Little Word Land so far, you should be able to easily check which courses have been migrated and which haven't 🙂

I'm glad you have the course title and image!

I found 5 of 'my' geography courses but my search says I look after 30.

Some were out under "other" by the creators.

I could change the category to geography if you wanted to run your script again @[deleted] .

I've just looked at 'Other" languages - what an amazing selection. The list goes on forever.

Will you have a "search" by "keyword" function?

It will be good when I can search by "DW7" as most courses I look after have that in the description.

Indeed, I think it may eventually make sense to have larger overall categories ("Language", "Art", "History", etc.)

@[deleted] and @[deleted], I've set you as the authors of all of the courses that you created on Memrise and have so far been migrated to My Little Word Land 🙂

@DW7 While doing this, I realized that I don't yet have a good way to add someone as a contributor to a course that was authored by someone else, so you're currently you're only the author of these two courses, sorry!

Let me see if I can quickly add the concept of "contributor" to My Little Word land 🙂

If you are able to see the Creators, it would help you discover the author.

In the case of The Constellation Course, KateOK was no longer active and Lien actually assigned me as Creator but I honoured her in the description.

The Precipitation course was created by me and I also mentioned that in the description to help with searching courses by DW7.

In both cases there is only one Author (no contributors).

However in the Italian courses by RoyGBiv, @Sandslane and I are contributors looking after the course.

Two questions:

How do other people know that you have set me up as Author (or looking after a course)? and
What privileges does it give me?

I've looked at some courses and see I have an Edit option for the Constellation course but none of the others I've looked at so far have it. I've looked at courses where I was the main or co-Contributor for them but do not have Edit rights.

All the Italian courses by JCR16 that have a round white icon with dual-flags symbol were assigned to me as he was no longer around.

All the Italian courses that have the English and Italian title separated by a "~" are joint @Sandslane and I.

Many actually show the Creator as Deactivated or Lien (at MemRise) set me up as the Contributor as they were no longer around.

If you are able to search the Description field, you will see that I have added "looked after by DW7" or something similar - which actually made it easier for me to search form my courses as well as letting people know they could contact me via the Forum.

7shi Can you elaborate? 🙂 I took a look at a couple of your courses (https://app.memrise.com/community/course/5722559/ancient-south-arabian-script-by-proto-sinaitic/ https://app.memrise.com/community/course/5722559/ancient-south-arabian-script-by-proto-sinaitic/ ), and IMO, it seems like those courses would be perfect for My Little Word Land's system that allows testing between arbitrary columns.

neoncube Thanks for looking. These courses were divided into different levels of letters (Phoenicia, Greek, Hebrew, etc) so that multiple letters could be learned at the same time. However, it seems that those who did not need all of them learned only certain levels. I think that if there is no level division, the course would have to be divided.

However, as you say, it might be possible to divide by columns. But it would be difficult to do this without being able to move or delete the column when editing, so the following features would be needed.

7shi So, the migration script should automatically rearrange those courses so that all of the levels are merged into a single level and each word has several columns. I'm not sure that's working, yet, though. Let me try to migrate a couple of your courses and see 🙂
