Possible MemRise features for MLWL

I do think it would be nice to have a testing counter saying 1 of 5, 2 of 5 etc each time a word is presented in the learning process as I have no idea of progress (as there is no seed to flower).

I think we could mimic the Memrise behaviour by colouring the background and/or the typing box green for correct answers and red for wrong answers. I believe thati it's a good way for psychological reinforcement. When the green colour is shown for a correct answer, it's okay to go directly to the next word (actually this is how Memrise behaves).

I like this idea.

To clarify, I meant that I like the idea of the answer turning green and moving on to the next answer if correct, or turning red, if wrong. This was one of the many features I liked about Memrise.

I'll have to think about this 🙂 I'd like learning/reviewing words in My Little Word Land to be fast. One of the issues that I had while using Memrise was that sometimes learning/reviewing felt pretty slow, because it waited for an animation to be played before going to the next word. IMO, it may be better to have review session be fast and then use the saved time to do another review session.

You didn't need to! Just press Enter to skip the waiting!

Also, Speed Review on Memrise has saved me a lot of time.

I'm mostly concerned about making the flow be too slow for people with lots of words.

neoncube Yes! And I just use number keys (1, 2, 3, 4) when reviewing with my laptop, skipping the animations with Enter. It feels like playing a video game!

I actually use SR for ~90% of my reviews. It saves a load of time (which is key if you work through >50 courses every day, with hundreds of words to review) and is usually all I need to memorize stuff.

It's been mentioned elsewhere (see Auto-learning - My Little Word Land about no typing), but any news on selecting non-typing as an option to answer a question @[deleted] ?

So many of 'my' courses are NT (ie jumbled words or even just pairing from 4 or 6 alternative answers) that they will not work as intended until you get time to implement that.

Also see my reply on the Auto-learning - My Little Word Land thread which actually had many "replies" about "non-typing" rather than "Auto-Learning".

And have you been able to think of a way for us to "delete" or "quit" a course we have looked at?

(Someone may start a courses and find it's not what they wanted to study or even complete it and want to tidy up their dashboard.)

Features reported elsewhere:

Once a course has been assigned to a Creator or Contributor, will we be able to re-assign the category to the list you have produced?
Will everyone be able (eventually) to search for courses by key words as that could be far quicker than going through a long list of them.
On MemRise one could do a search having selected a category - eg Geography then key word Earthquake.
I still think it would be nice if you had two drop-down course categories of selection.
One for Languages and one for non-languages. It might make it easier to find a course.

Incidentally if you look at the list, the last entry is "Other". Could you rename that to "Other languages" for clarification.
You have three "Other" categories after "Occitan". Could you give them a second description or even reassign courses to exciting categories. I was often suggesting to MemRise how they could clean up and rationalise their categories (as I've mentioned on MLWL Forum).

I like the way MemRise responds when the typed answer is wrong.

First it shows you the correct answer but the next time it is tested, it is a pairing (not typing), giving one a chance to learn it. Also it avoids having to type a difficult word but still tests knowledge of it.

Would that be possible eventually @[deleted] ?

For Completeness:

Please can you come up with a way of displaying "Creator" of a course.

One way may be to add "Created by xxxx. Contributors: yyyy, zzzz" at the top of every course description.

Not sure if I've listed this (I did search) but it's not implemented yet.

Can we have jumbled words as an option, please?
So instead of typing or multiple choice, you have to select 4 or 5 words from say 10 and put them in the right order. (I guess that may be harder to implement.)

PS - But see item 6 above which also mentions pairing (multiple choice) which you have implemented, thanks.

Review Mistakes / Errors

One of the paid features is Memrise will tag those mistakes made before. At least I need to answer the questions 3 times sequentially in order to let the "word" remove the tag of "mistakes / difficult words". In general, I think that 3 times without making the same mistakes on the particular word is NOT enough, maybe MLWL can provide some options of choosing 5 or 6 times.
