I hesitate to report this as a bug as you may have had no control over this @[deleted].
On this course My Little Word Land ("Italian 1 to 7 - MCQs ♫ [UK]") by Ian_mn (which I helped advise on), it is very easy to see the random order.
The course order was Italian 1 through to 7 and every entry in the level was in the order they appeared in the original course. So consecutive items came from the same topic.
Let me know if you want a screenshot - but if you look at the Overview, you are bound to notice it.
For a big courses going straight to Italian 7 instead of 1 and 2 (say) could be a problem as the basics have not been leaned.
